Projects: Refugee center

Complex help for Ukrainian refugees

„I was a stranger and you sheltered me.” Matthew 25:35

Housing and meals for the homeless

Our refugee mission project offers long-term assistance to refugees fleeing the Russian-Ukrainian war. Even before the war, we worked to help the poorest, so we accept refugees who lived in a disadvantaged situation in Ukraine. The Dorcas Refugee Center not only guarantees safe accommodation for people in need, but also the start of a new life. The Refugee Center, converted from the Dorcas camping, can provide a home for 200 people. In addition to free accommodation, we also support those in need with meals.

Social assistance

In order to achieve long-term success, we patronize the Transcarpathian refugees living here in a complex way. Our vision and motto: "changed lives" - is especially important for families fleeing war, so we help in several areas. For those in need, the transformation of their perspective means a breakthrough, significant change. We help parents find employment on the labor market, while our goal is to improve children's basic school skills.

School to success - A School for refugees

As a result of the war, the epidemic and poverty, the children who live in our country struggle with several years behind in their studies. Our special school catch-up program helps them get into a local school as soon as possible. Our 10 teachers educate 51 children every day with exemplary dedication. The program works in partnership with UNICEF.

Mental and spiritual help

In addition to fulfilling their physical needs, we want the refugees who come to us to find peace of mind as well. In addition to post-traumatic stress, they have to deal with many difficulties in this crisis. Psychologists help children and adults to live stress-free everyday life even during the uncertain, transitional period. As a Christian foundation, we also teach and guide religious refugees with the help of our pastoral staff.

Further step

The essence of the program is to provide families living in the center with the possibility of a self-sustaining home. We help refugee families who live in a stable family environment, do not have addictions, and plan to settle in Hungary. The program is sponsored by the American Reformed Church.

How do families become independent within the program?

  • In a separate house with a garden, they must take care of themselves, including utilities
  • We help them save, so they can later buy their own house
  • If necessary, we also help you find a job, and we visit families regularly in the beginning

Donation in kind:

Here at the Refugee Center, we really need donations of clothes, food, cleaning products, and baby items. In addition to the collection points in Debrecen, we also welcome donations here at the Dorcas campsite. In the case of companies, you can request your own collection box.
